Profiles:
Route
A bending and curving shoreline, vast marshes and wetlands and
the largest freshwater dune system in the world at Sandbanks are
just some of the natural treasures you will enjoy in the County.
There are also plenty of beautiful small country towns to enjoy
each with excellent shops and restaurants. The Loyalist Parkway
Association has developed self-guided brochures for those who want
to learn about the region's early settlement over 200 years ago.

Carrying Place - PEC
|
- Signage will be installed in 2006.
- Follows the Loyalist Parkway (HWY 33) which has wide paved shoulders.
Caution needed since speed limit is 80 kph. A smooth surface and scenic
vistas make this a preferable route for cyclists.
- Moderately hilly.
- Sandbanks Provincial Park is not on the Trail proper (just a 10 minute
drive from Bloomfield along County Rd 12), but is definitely worth the
trip.
- PEC's Trail ends at Glenora where you can take a ferry to Aldophustown
and continue along the Waterfront Trail through Greater Napanee.
Main Access Points (with parking)
- Carrying Place
- Wellington
- Bloomfield
- Picton
- Glenora
Start your tour of the County from Belleville. Ample parking is available
at East and West Zwicks Park. Take the Bay Bridge Rd over the Bay of Quinte
into the County and turn east onto County Rd # 3, known locally as Rednersville
Rd. (paved with shoulders). This scenic route follows the Bay of Quinte
ending at Carrying Place Rd. At Carrying Place Rd, turn south on to HWY
33 or the Loyalist Parkway, which takes you through the County to Glenora.
(Approximately 15 km from Bay Bridge to Carrying Place.)
Local Maps
Napanee appears on the following Waterfront Trail maps:
Waterfront Trail routes appear on MapArt's Kingston Trenton Belleville
1:25 000 scale fold map, as well as other MapArt publications. These maps
are widely available through local retailers, or online at www.mapart.com
The Chamber of Commerce publishes and excellent map and guide called
The County of Prince Edward Accommodation and Services Guide or the Red
Map listing information on suggested bike tours, accommodation, wineries
and services, though it does not indicate the route of the Waterfront
Trail (just follow HWY 33). Map is widely available throughout the County
and at the offices of the Chamber of Commerce. See phone number and website
below.
The Loyalist Parkway Heritage Guide and Map contains excellent descriptions
of the heritage homes and points of interest along HWY 33 from Trenton
to Kingston. Fabulous way to learn about the early settlers who remained
loyal to the British Crown and fled the United States during the American
War of Independence. See contact info below.

| Trail Connections |
|
- Millennium Trail runs along an old railway line and is best
suited to hikers, ATV's and snowmobiles. The surface is loose
gravel making it a very rough ride for cyclists. There are long-range
plans to pave and separate motorized-vehicular use from pedestrians
and cyclists. Once accomplished, this Trail will be designated
as the off-road Waterfront Trail.
