Appointment of New Executive Director

Keith Laushway, Chair of the Waterfront Regeneration Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Vicki Barron as the Executive Director of the Waterfront Regeneration Trust.

Vicki comes to the Trust with over 32 years of experience in watershed management, most recently as the General Manager of Credit Valley Conservation. She is not new to the work of the Trust - in 1994/5 she chaired the Shoreline Management Working Group in the development of the Lake Ontario Greenway Strategy.

Vicki has been an outspoken advocate for government leadership and reform in water management. In addition to her experience in Ontario, Vicki has also participated in water protection projects in Brazil and Great Britain.

She was the recipient of the 2001 Canadian Water Resources - Ontario Chapter Distinguished Service Award; and is a member of the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario's Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Committee.

In responding to the appointment Vicki says: "I am so pleased to join the Waterfront Regeneration Trust. The Trust's goal of making sure people can get to the water; and that the water is worth getting to is one that I truly believe in. I look forward to working with all of the Lake Ontario waterfront stakeholders to make sure that we protect and respect this precious environment."

Vicki also acknowledged the work of the former Executive Director Beth Benson - "Beth is a colleague and a friend - we share the same strong commitment to regeneration and the agenda for building on the progress made over the past decade. Under Beth's leadership the Trust has been recognized as a leader in regeneration, and I am pleased that she has agreed to continue her work with the Trust on a part time basis while she pursues graduate studies at Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto School of Theology. Her work at the Trust will focus on assisting waterfront communities to regenerate brownfield sites."
