The mild winter weather offers the perfect invitation to get out and enjoy the Waterfront Trail. Some suggestions include:
Lakeview West Park, Oshawa [Map 3-4]. For years this park seemed like little more than a dormant field. The City has done an outstanding job in re-making the Park. The first phase of work was completed last year and concentrated on improving the Waterfront Trail through the park.
Visit Hamilton to check out the new pedestrian/cycling bridge over the QEW. The bridge connects the Waterfront Trail to Red Hill Valley . The City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Conservation Authority have created a wonderful guide to Waterfalls and Vistas for cyclists, which is available on-line. Scroll down to the 10 feature cycling trips and enjoy. Route 4 starts on the Waterfront Trail and takes you to Red Hill Valley.
The City of Toronto is holding a public meeting on the improvements to the Bluffer's Park in Toronto, which could greatly improve the safety and quality of the Waterfront Trail by keeping it off Kingston Road. While many would see moving the Trail off a busy road and rerouting it through a City park as a sensible plan, there is opposition from local residents. The City of Toronto and Toronto Conservation Authority are offering trail design alternatives to respond to these concerns. Every year in our poll of participants on the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure, we hear how important it is to close the gaps in the route, move the trail off-road.The link through Bluffer's Park accomplishes both of these goals in this area. Please attend the meeting or respond to the City's call for comments to share your view.

REGISTRATION
Don't forget to register for the 2012 GWTA--it will be one of the best holidays you've ever enjoyed. You'll meet new friends from all over Ontario and Canada and visit 41 communities along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The cost is $699 to start in Niagara, $649 to start in Toronto, or build your own Adventure for $115 per day where you pick your start and number of days of riding .This year we have added a new stop for the Charter Bus returning home at the end of the GWTA. In addition to Niagara-on-the-Lake and Toronto, the bus will stop in Kingston.
To help you recruit friends and family who may think cycling 720km is insanity--tell them about the enhanced support we offer. Luggage transportation, bike repairs and convenient shuttles provided. You think you can handle 60 km day, use the support shuttles to keep your cycling distance in a comfortable range. We love this Trail and all it has come to mean about regenerating our waterfront and reconnecting to it. We invite you to come and experience it with us.
Help us promote the GWTA!
Download the GWTA postcard brochure and email it to your friends! Thank you very much for your help.
